Polar Film Lab is a collective providing space and community around analogue and experimental film in Tromsø, Northern Norway. We supply working facilities, and hold film screenings, master classes and workshops to improve the opportunities for artists working with film in the North, and to expand the knowledge around analogue and experimental film both within and outwith the arts community. It runs with a 'do-it-yourself' focus, aiming to bring more people into direct contact with analogue film. PFL was co-founded in 2016 by the artist Emilija Škarnulytė and curator Sarah Schipschack.

Do you have an interest in analogue film – in filming, developing, projecting, watching, experimenting or just learning about why we are still using an old format?
If so, get in touch with us, or join one of our workshops or events when they hap- pen. We are open to everyone! We run a series of introductory workshops, in addition to more advanced workshops working with complex techniques or a conceptual or theoretical approach to moving-image.
Already a pro or have a project? Join us!
To become a full member of Polar Film Lab and to have full access to equipment and the darkroom, you must have experience working within such an environment, have joined one of our intro workshops, or shadowed another member as they use the lab. Most of what we do is free, or one can participate for the costs of the materials. Often all we ask is for your excitement, interest and input. As we run on a collective basis, we also ask longer term members to engage with aspects of running the lab. Drop us an email at polarfilmlab@gmail.com
